  • Cleaning tires

Hey all am I hurting my tires by using Brillo pads on them?? Or should I go to a foam tire cleaner?? BTW I do not touch the CC wheels with that brillo pad.

    Thank you.

I dont think so. Brillo pads are just as aggressive as a medium-stiff nylon brush. So, imo, you're good.

As long as it's JUST the tires you're using brillo pads on, you shouldn't have problems. Just don't use too much pressure; if you start to see the sidewall checking/flaking, stop and use less pressure.

As a general rule though, whatever cleaner you're using (APC/Super Degreaser/etc.) should be doing most of the work, not the scrubbing aparatus.

I've used Brillo type pads on whitewall tires, no problem. I am sure regular black wont be a big deal.

Brillo was an old trick for whitewalls...back when there were whitewalls...I think on today's textured sidewalls, a Brillo pad wouldn't be too effective. Get yourself a nice tire brush like the Gold Class or another from Walmart, Target, Pep Boys, etc., and as has been suggested, use APC, some neutral wheel cleaner, or perhaps the dedicated NXT tire cleaner. That's my $.02

I also need the brush to get into the texture of my tire... guess it depends on the tire you have on how well the brillo pad may work.
