I use Meguiar's Endurance High gloss, a gel, so it doesnt go anywhere. Thus, I dont have this problem.

But, my suggestion to avoid this kind of problem would be to spray the hot shine onto an applicator Over In The Grass, then walk over to your car and apply it.

Then, follow mike_svt's method, which is to dress the entire tire except the bottom, then roll the car forward and finish the tires.

As far as removal, I think APC-type or tire cleaners (which are supposed to remove dressings, natch) scrubbed in with a stiff brush should remove or lessen the appearance of the dressing. For you folks with the brick or concrete, you might want to try some TSP or something from Home Depot. Any strong cleaner ought to do something...but if it has soaked into the pores of the concrete...the tire shine may bleed out afterwards.
What's TSP? I have some "fresh" stains (only been 2 days) and I'd like them removed before some permanent damage! ...unless it's already too late..

Re: Hot Shine Tire Spray > Driveways

In the past I had the same problem both on the concrete driveway and the paved. Cleaning up with a light degreaser (green, biodegrade or environmentally safe) would work most of the times if you let it soak in a few minutes. Be careful with paved (blacktop) its all petroleum based so if you always spray your wheels at the same spot you may end up wearing off the black goo that holds it together and exposing more of the stones. Now I use old news papers. Three sheets do the job.

I was surprised no one came up with this answer. Cut out a template from a cardboard box. Apply your dressing any excess drips onto the cardboard. No stains on the driveway. When the cardboard is no longer usable cut out a new template.

Do you recommend any particular brand of degreaser? We're looking to sell our house and these stains aren't helping!! My dad's gonna kill me if I don't get them off soon!!

I've used one in a black spray can called STEAM PREMIUM. Its from pennzoil. I've also used a local one thats also environmentally safe. I buy that one by the 5 gallon pail, don't think you'll find it, but, here's the brand anyway, Dr. Mechanico (has Carnauba so don't use it on tile or polished floors). It has a yellowish green color rather like the bug and tar remover from Turtle Wax but with a slightly more dilluted consistancy. Could be that Turtle Wax bug and tar remover could do the job too, never tried it, but you could try that. I have also used Lestoil with good results. I've tried Goo Gone also. Use any full strength and work them in with a brush, wait a few minutes but don't let it dry and wash it off while scrubbing (don't use any in direct sunlight). They all work best with fresh stains, older stains tend to hang on harder. How porous your driveway is will also have some weight on the cleaning effect.

                Wish you luck,

I haven't run into this problem but I figure this is the perfect situation for some Purple Power and a pressure washer.

Re: Hot Shine Tire Spray > Driveways

Guys, I restore concrete for a living. My company does over 1 million square feet a year.

Tire dressing is basically the same viscosity as a light weight oil. The problem with oil on concrete is concrete is a porous surface, hence the longer the oil is left, the deeper the oil penetrates into the concrete. I've seen demo'd concrete from a service station we did for years. The oil had penetrated 3" deep into the concrete.

The best solution I have found is a product called Oil Sponge HD http://www.oilsponge.com/products.html

Use full strength for oil spots that have been there for 2+ months, 50/50 for less than 60 days. Scrub the product in with a stiff brush, let the product dwell for 15 minutes, add more if the product begins to evaporate. The the key is using a hot water pressure washer. My units range from 880,000 BTU's to 2.2 million BTU's. I use 300 degree water at 4000 psi. Literally emulsifies the oil. Deep oil stains should be re applied with enough Oil Sponge to soak into the concrete. Lightly rinse.

The beauty of the Oil Sponge product is that once the area is dry, a white film will remain. The film is actually enzymes that will continue to draw the oil to the surface and eat the oil. Have the home owner rinse the areas once a month with a garden hose. Re apply the Oil Sponge every 3-6 months until the stain disappears.

I read someones suggestion to epoxy coat or stain the concrete. Absolutely the worst thing you can do. I also do epoxy and acid coating, very high profit margin. The problem is that the oil will continue to surface, and usually withing a year the epoxy coating or stain will blister where the oil surfaces. Big can or worms now created.

I look to you guys for advice on detailing, since it has always been a hobby for me with my bikes and classic cars. I know pressure washing. Been doing it for 30 years. Anyone need any pressure washing advice, feel free to contact me at anytime.

Won't the white film look strange on the ground where the stain use to be? Sort of replaced the stain with a stain..?

How long does the white film remain?

Is oil sponge expensive? The site's "order" page is down...

The white "film" is barely noticable, and looks 100% better than the oil stains. The enzymes contained it the white film are working 24/7 to draw out and eat the oils from the surface. The best solution for oil stains on concrete, pavers or exposed aggragate. And no, I do not own Oil Sponge or the company that created Oil Sponge, have nothing to gain by recommending the product besides helping fellow pressure washing contractors find effective solutions.

I call the company directly to order. I always keep a couple 5 gallon containers in stock.
