I was hoping to top my #21 with NXT today. The forecast did not look good so yesterday I cheated. I had hand washed the truck very well on Saturday, in between, the rain showers. Yesterday I figured, well, it's already pretty clean so I'll cheat and run it through the local car automated touch free car wash. Then I took it to work early with the DA and everything I needed.
Once there I QDed with Last Touch prior to getting to work. Quite the learning experince.
First off, this was my first effort with last Touch and was very impressed.
But the kicker was this, I had hand washed Saturday, ran it through the Auto Wash Sunday then drove about 6 miles straight to work. With the first stoke of the first Quick Detail Pad treated with Last touch I revealed a gleaming white stripe. In one days time the truck had developed such a dirt film as a result of the rainy weather that the Auto Wash did nothing to remove it. I actually went through 3 Quick Detail Pads to get the truck clean enough to where I felt comfortable waxing it.
Usually I keep my truck clean enough that I can QD the whole thing with 1 QD pad and it will barely have a little dirt on it. Yesterday, I went through 2 of them and they were both completely filthy. Then I had to redo the whole truck with a clean one.
In the past, I have cheated and when I am ready to wax I will hand wash then run it through the autowash to get into all the nooks and crannys then drive straight home, QD then WAX. This lets me make use of their Blow Dryers as well.
But, Yesterday taught me a lesson. Those Autowashes might be good in a pinch. But for routine "proper" car care, they just don't cut the film layer. I was dumbfounded at how much road grime was on there.
I don;t like to rely on the Autowashes too much as harsh cleansers tends to be hard on a wax job. So I only use them immediately before I wax sometimes. But from what I learned yesterday. I doubt i'll be using them except for possibly in the dead of winter.
