  • Black Trim Turning Blue!

I know there are some of you with this same problem or have ran into it while detailing a vehicle. Black trim molding turning blue or other colors, perhaps due to stress on the mold?

Are there any preventative measures to take to stop this? I have seen older (97-99) Jeeps that have not been taken care of that really get some bad blue coloration. I know proper care and dressing is helping but is there any other measures I could take? Thanks.

I would suggest trying NXT Tech Protection - it works well on my black trims. It has UV filters in it too which should block the rays causing the discolouration.
I have found the NXT Tech Protection easy to use & goes a long way, so good value too!

      Hi

I see you have a Jeep as well. Mine is a 2000 Cherokee Sport.

The blue marks you are talking about are where the plastic cladding has been "bruised" or bumped/hit. The body shop called it "stressed" plastic. On mine it is at least. I was fortunate enough for a slight bump from the rear and got both my left and right rear cladding replaced by insurance.

I tried to get rid of it too and all it did was wear down the pebble finish, and it DOES go down into the plastic, not just the surface like I had thought.

You can try getting some "vinyl dye" in flat black or satin black at an auto body parts store. Made for recoloring plastic and vinyl. It won't match perfectly but it might be better than what you have there though.

I'm saving up to replace the left and right front pieces on my Cherokee now. About $120 for both. Ow.

YMMV, but on my bumper extensions it is from pressure or stress, not aging..
