Maybe a solvent like Goo-Gone would do the trick. You need to be careful when using Goo-Gone on your finish, but it should remove that contaminatin. After the contaminiants have been removed, you will probabaly need to apply scratchx to the area or use #83 followed by #80 if you own a G100.

After removing the mark, go after the etchings.

You want to make sure that you are using the citrus-based Goo-Gone first of all. To apply just moisten a towel with product then gently rub the towel over the stain. It may take some time, but the goo-gone should soften whatever that compound is. After that wash the area and apply scratchx.

After finishing with the goo-gone, you may want to clay the area.

Perhaps then you should clean the paint with Meguiar's Deep Crystal Paint cleaners.

If marks are still there, go after the left over etchings with ScratchX, or use a dual action polisher such as the Meguiar's G100, using #83 or #80 on their appropriate pads.

Plastic razor blade would probably be my next suggestion. I would hate to think of what the paint looks like under that mystery blob though.

how about a solvent like Mineral spirits or gasoline? I know you would want to be really careful doing this, but if it's like tar, that should remove it.
