  • Detailing brand new black Nissan Z w swirls

I have a brand new Nissan Z to detail-it doesn't even have plates yet. Anyway it looks like it has DISO. Now the paint looks really good but when I bring out the xenon light the fine swirls show up. They seem really minor and I did not want to use anything too agressive, so after washing and claying what should I try? I have a DA, rotary, or can do it by hand-Thanks.

No need for a rotary. Just use DA with #80. That should take care of everything. If not perfect enough for you, you can always use #83, the nstep down to #80, but #80 alone should take care of it.

Do a test spot with M80/W-8006/Dual Action Polisher, see if that removes the defects, if it does in that one spot, the repeat over entire car. Then go to wax.

        #80 or #82

I have #80 and am impressed with it-do you think it might be too agressive and should I maybe try #82 first instead or just go with the old reliable #80 and be done with it? I have never used #82 but just got some that is why I am asking. Thanks.

I love the reflection that 82 leaves, I would try it first with the DA. If thats not cutting it, try the 80.

            Sure!

Try it first in a small area and check your results, Meguiar's always says,

Why the suggestions of 80 and 82 first instead of 9?

#9 might not be aggressive enough to deal with DISO??

Typically if a car has DISO it will require a product with a little more bite than M82 or M09 to remove it in an effective and timely manner. It depends on how deep the swirls are and how hard the paint is. You never know until you try.

Mike, not to hijack this thread but are there any tests out there that you can conduct to find out if your paint is either hard or soft?? That way you have a better idea of what you might need to do and what products to use such as in this case with DISO? Thanks

I think the 82 will work for 74 thing because it sounds like the DISO He is refering to is more likely from improper washing than some caveman with a rotary. Unless the clear is like glass, then the 80 or 83.

What speed would you set it at? For fine/ really minor swirls if you were to use the speed glaze? I'm going to detail a car that's paint is in really good condition, but has barely visible swirls. I have a g100, #9 and #80, along with the polishing pads and finishing pads.

Edit: but you guys are saying #80 would be the best. And you'd need that aggressive of a product instead of #9 to get rid of fine swirls?

Either 4.5 or 5.0, anything less than that and you won't get much cleaning action by the combination for pad, product and oscillating action.

You need to understand... M80 isn't that aggressive of a product. #9 is really not an aggressive product. Spend some time working with both and you'll get a feel for how gentle they are.
