  • Removing hydrophobic coatings from glass

Hi - how are you guys removing the hydrophobic coating on glass?

You could probably try an IPA mix, like Megs surface prep. Or an alcohol from the pharmacy shelf. You could even get away with using Ultimate compound in the glass to clean it.

Hello, which specific product are you referring to, that you are trying to remove?

Hi Nick - I was actually just going to post the question - what are the different type of hydrophobic coatings? To answer your question - I'm not sure. I get a lot of cars in and out of my shop, window tint shop, that have these coatings on the interior of the glass.

It makes film stick to the glass, instead of sliding around. A lot of guys torch the coating off, but I don't like that idea. it also isn't friendly for doing back glass or windshields.

So my first part was what are the options for removal.

My next step will be applying a stronger hydrophobic coating to some glass, and testing the products I've gathered to see how removal goes. I'd prefer a product that I can spray on and also doubles as a glass cleaner. Am I wishful thinking? Maybe.... it's why I'm here. : )

So in addition to post one, I also would like to know of a good strong hydrophobic coating used on interior auto glass. For the purpose of applying and testing the removal products.
