I'm a neophyte so I have no idea what I'm dealing with. I'm 3rd owner. The paint is Mercedes Tenorite grey metallic
755/7755. I only can see it in direct sunlight and not in the shade. I used Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
and it appeared to improve. I think I'm doing this all wrong.

I don't want to wet sand. Could I use a polishing compound or something else that is safer?

Is this oxidation or clear coat damage? Opinions?

Maybe try a spot with Ultimate compound and see how that spot looks after.

Uploaded pic via URL. I tried to find Clear Coat Safe Polishing Compound but it appears discontinued. I'll look for ultimate compound. Thanks.

This looks like oxidation, UV exposure, or early-stage clear coat failure. If the discoloration fades temporarily after polishing but returns, it may be a sign of uneven clear coat wear. Instead of wet sanding, try using a mild polishing compound with a soft foam pad, working carefully in small sections. Follow up with a paint sealant or ceramic coating to provide added protection. If the clear coat is already thinning, polishing will only offer temporary improvement, and a professional refinishing might be necessary in the future.
