  • Odd Paint Discoloration.

I'm a neophyte so I have no idea what I'm dealing with. I'm 3rd owner. The paint is Mercedes Tenorite grey metallic
755/7755. I only can see it in direct sunlight and not in the shade. I used Meguiar's Ultimate Polish
and it appeared to improve. I think I'm doing this all wrong.

I don't want to wet sand. Could I use a polishing compound or something else that is safer?

Is this oxidation or clear coat damage? Opinions?

It looks like you may be dealing with clear coat hazing or etching, possibly from improper products used in the past, sun exposure, or even chemical staining. The fact that Meguiar’s Ultimate Polish improved it slightly suggests it’s not a fully failed clear coat but more of a surface-level issue. You might want to try a fine polishing compound using a dual-action polisher if available. Hand polishing can work, but it will take more effort. If you’re hesitant about wet sanding, which is understandable, a multi-step polish and sealant process would be a safer alternative to enhance clarity and gloss while adding protection. Keeping the paint protected with a quality sealant or ceramic coating will prevent future issues.

Yes, I seem to have the same issue with the rear window. Very Odd.
The rubbing compound did resolve the trunk issue but it took 2 attempts.
