I searched this but couldn't find a definate answer. Can the backing plate that comes with this DA be used with the Megs pads or do you need to purchase the Megs backing plate? And...thanks to everyone here for all the GREAT info I have obtained from the Megs Forums!

the pc 7336 comes with a pad, but isn't recommended for use on car finishes. what you'll need to do is, buy a backing plate and pads. http://www.meguiars.com/estore/produ...tem&sku=WDAV99Last edited by imacarnut; Sep 15, 2005, 03:22 PM.

You need to have a stand alone backing plate and it can come from any company. I think the thing you're describing is a foam pad that is permanently affixed to a backing plate.
Try to find out if the thing that comes with the PC7336 is a fixed foam pad/backing plate, or a Velcro backing plate that will accept foam pads.

I just purchased this model for an Xmas gift for my brothers (man, am I nice or what?) and it appears that this particular model comes with two attachments. One is the white foam polishing pad and the other I believe is for the sanding duties. I never opened the box, so I'm not sure if the sanding plate is velcro or not???

The white foam pad is permanently glued to a backing plate, I have never read of a single good comment about this particular foam for actually polishing paint, most people say they use it with a bonnet to remove dried wax.
See the third page of this thread to see what I mean...
Pacific Coast Corvettes Club at Meguiar's! On September 10th, 2005 Meguiar's was proud to host a hands-on detailing class for members of the Pacific Coast Corvettes Club (http://www.pccvettes.org/) here at Meguiar's Corporate offices in Irvine, CA. Pictures and Write-up to be posted on Monday.
As for the other backing plate, it is going to have an interface that works for sanding paper, but I don't think it will work for foam pads, so chances are very good you're going to need to get a backing plate just for this purpose.
Here's the good deal...
That way he'll have the backing plate, two polishing pads and one finishing pad.

Thanks guys for your input.
I found this post by THE OTHER PC in the G-100 forum....
"If you're buying from Lowes you're better off with a 7336 than a 7424 anyway. The 7424 comes with a fixed (and lame) foam pad. The 7336 comes with a hook&loop backing plate so you can use it with Meguiar's foam pads. I've read that it's not as good as Meguiar's backing plate but should be adequate in a pinch."
I'm going to get the good deal that Mike suggested...
