  • Abrasiveness comparison

Can anyone point me to a listing of the relative abrasiveness of the various polishes? For example, is #9 more or less abrasive than #82? I have a problem area on the front bumper where someone with a white paint job scraped it. I thought I got it out using #2 and Body Scrub but in the bright light, I see some cloudiness that I hope I can get out if I can figure out the right product to use.

#9 and #82 are equal on the aggressiveness scale, but I've heard some say that #9 is more like a 2 1/2, instead of a 3...Call Meguiars and ask for a professional cataloge, as it lists the aggressiveness of the products.

Either of the two should fix you up.

I have been searching through the forums looking for an abrasiveness comparison chart. Rusty Bumper refered to the professional catalog listing the aggresiveness of each product.

Is this available in a list form? And of so is it somewhere in the forums and I just can't find it?

Black Cat was kind enough to put up the following list but I don't see #80 in there and I see it's from Autopia. I was kind of hoping Meg's might have something similar with ALL products listed.

#80 is listed as a 4 on the aggressive or cleaning scale....(I guess different people call it different things)

FWIW, the list that Black Cat put up has Mequiars Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner A30 listed as being stronger than #82, & #9, but that's not true. Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner is about the lightest cleaner that Meguiar's has.

            Thanks R.B.,

I am gonna take the advice and call Meg's Tomorrow and try to get the Pro Cat.

It would be great to have a reference list available to forum members to share when folks are asking questions.

Too bad the Pro Cat. is not available as a PDF. When I get the Pro Cat maybe I can gather all the info needed and put it into a chart form. Be mighty handy

              You're welcome Jeff,

We've been suggesting that Meguiars make their catalogs available in .pdf format for downloading. I'm sure they're looking into this matter from what I've heard.

No way this is off. Each of those products are made for a specific job. Follow that chart if you will but your asking for trouble.

                  Copy that Superior Shine.

Just trying to get a decent reference list here. There doesn't seem to be anything in the Forums as yet. I saw something a few days ago someone had put out but can't seem to find it now.

                  Stilll looking though.

I figured a chart of some sort would be handy.

For my main purpose "at this time" I am simply looking for something to remove minor swirl marks created by myself through the use of MFs, towels and mits. Nothing serious.

I have a gallon of #80 but was thinking I would like to try 1-2 products a tad milder. Plus I figured they would be great to have in my arsenal.

It looks like #2, #9 & #82 would most likely be good products to have around. I think I'll add those to an order I am putting together. I'll get the smaller size and play with them here in the near future and see what I like.

Most of the vehicles I have in mind to be working on are in new or like new condition. So I think these products will be handy. I already have #83 coming.

I don't have a Rotary so I won't be getting into any serious defect removal so I think with everything I have I should be set up pretty well with my new DA. Also ordered the Cordless today.

My mother bought a new Dodge Stratus the other day and I'll be working that one up this weekend. I have not eyeballed it very closely yet but figure it likely to have, at the least, some Dealer Installed Swirl Marks so I figured I might as well have everything in hand.

EDITED Well, I just placed the order for the products mentioned above. Even If I don't use them this weekend I am sure it will pay off having a small quantity of each around.
