  • paint removal/aluminum polishing

hi all-joined after i stumbled on your forum looking for early mopar pics.
saw the INCREDIBLE job done on taht 40 plymouth(the google hit) man-WOW! i had to show my wife. we have a 49 plymouth that needs that.
also saw the funny but inspiring job done on teh aluminum boat-we ought to be nieghbors-i dig that! =)

okay-question. i have an original 55 camper that has an aluminum body. but it was originally painted. paint is faded/worn off and aluminum is starting to show in MANY places. i want to finish removing the thin layer of paint and then polish the underlying aluminum.
    product?
    techniques?
im an expierienced mechanic and have tools galore and am really self-suffiecient. just point me in teh right direction. thanks all.

As far as paint removal, you would probably be best going to Home Depot, and seeing what chemicals safely strips paint from aluminum.

After that the metal polishes will be ok to use. Not sure how big of an item that you are dealing with, could be an adventure by hand, and a few tubs of Nxt Metal Polish, but it'll work.
