  • Deep Cleaning & starting over

This has been an 'off' summer for me as far as keeping my car detailed. It has been a good 8 weeks since it was properly washed & detailed and with Fall/Winter so close around the corner, I want to get the finish and protection back to where it should be.

I was thinking along the following lines:

    Wash with strong GC solution
    Clay
Deep Crystal #1 via PC/polishing pad (perhaps 2 applictions)

From here, I'm not sure what I want to do, should I:

    A-12/NXT (#20)/#16 (or Collinite IW)

    Color-X/NXT (#20)/#16 or (IW)

    I currently have:

    Klasse AIO
    A-12
    Color-X
    #9
    #7
    #83
    4* Platinum UPP (older version)
    NXT
    #16
    Collinite Insulator Wax
    #20

So much stuff, so many options.

Well, ColorX would be a bit stronger than the A-12, esp if you have picked up some swirls since your last detail, without being as aggressive as the #83.

I would try Color X, then NXT. Use #20 on the wheels.

        My process would be:

        Wash
        Clay
        Inspect the finish
        #83 if needed w-8006
#80 (or #9) to remove any marring
AIO to prepare the finish and "fill" anything remaining
#20 or UPP (UPP would look nice on your color)
        #16 to top it off

Well I got started at least. My passenger door decided to act up & not latch when I close it so most of the afternoon was spent fooling around with that. It's been giving me a hard time off & on for a few weeks, but today it got real stubborn. Stupid latch decided to freeze up & I had to take it out, lube it, beat it, work all the parts around and repeat, repeat, repeat

It seems to be working *crossed fingers,* but the inside door handle broke where the release rod attaches, so now I have to fix/replace that

Back to the real subject, I washed & clayed the car although it really didn't seem to need it. The clay came back clean after every panel & I only saw a few small tar dots while working the clay....that's when I had the door problem.

When I was able to get back to the paint, I used the Deep Crystal #1 on a polishing pad & the PC on 4. I was able to buff out the hood, the roof, both fenders and both doors. Boy, talk about "squeaky clean!" All in all, I'm pleased with the results. There are a few RIDS, but I think I'm going to go over the car with the #9.

I think I'll flip a coin over the NXT / #16 combo and the #20 / Collinite combo for the final sealing coat
