  • Another Novice Question

I have a 1997 Black Ford Taurus. The paint is faded with lots of swirling and spider webs. I'm thinking of doing the following:

    1) Thorough Wash
    2) Quik Clay Detailing System
    3) ScratchX on some deeper scratches.
    4) The three step Deep Crystal System (Cleaner, Polish and Wax)

Does this sound reasonable? What, if any changes would you suggest?

I'm also debating about buying a DA Polisher. Would this work with the products I outlined above or would there be a better choice? I chose the DA Polisher because I understood that it would be safer (less likely to mess up paint) for a novice to use. TIA.

Your products sound good by hand. DC#1 wont remove any scrathces, so you may need to ScratchX the whole car.

The PC can be used with those products, but there are better options, like the #80 series of products.

      Hi lukemiller........Welcome to the forum.

Your recipie sound good to me.

As for using a DA polisher, ScratchX is not recommended to be used with one, due to the possibility of it gumming up on your paint.

But there are plenty of other products that would work well the DA. Such as #80, that Murr1525 suggested.

There's some great info at the link below to help you along the way....

Thanks for your response. Which ones of the #80 series? Thanks.

          Well,

#80 - Mild Paint cleaner polish- for regular use
#83 - Stronger paint cleaner/polish for the tougher swirls

          #81- Polish

          #21 - Wax

Those are the main PC applied Products, and should cover about every situation. Others can be used, like #82, which is another cleaner/polish, and #20 is another wax, etc.. but probably best starting with the basics.
