  • Rain-X

    Hi,

I haven't used RainX in a few years, but I was wondering how well the stuff works?

Also does Meguiar's make a Windshild treatment like RainX?

Which Rain-X should I buy and is it easy to use?

    Thanks

Remember put the Rain-X on the cloth and make sure it does not get on the paint. The old formula is/was not paint safe. Don't know if the newer Rain-X products are paint safe. Make sure you read the labels.

As far as how well it works, does what it's suppose to do, helps to keep the windshield clearer when it's raining. I have found that as long as the windshield is cleaned before using Rain-X, the wiper blades should work smoothly during a light misting type rain, and not skip or make any noises when working, unless their worn or coming apart.

I've found Rain-X to work pretty well. My wife really likes having in on her Honda. I'd also be interested to know if Meguiar's has an equivalent to Rain-X as well.

When I recently detailed a Chrysler Pacifica, the owner asked me what I put on the windows because the water was beading up like crazy. My answer: "Meguiars NXT glass cleaner!" That's it! I've also noticed this on my personal vehicles. It's much easier to apply than Rain-X and seems to perform as well. And the smell...mmmmm...

Rain-X is great stuff. It can be a bear to put on but it lasts a long time and does what it says it will.

That being said, Castrol makes a similar product that can be somewhat hard to find. It works just as well, lasts about 1/2 to 1/3 as long as Rain-X, but is 100 times easier to apply and is wax safe. If you see it in the stores (I can look up the exact name is anyone is interested) I would recommend giving it a shot.

I need to try the NXT cleaner.

I've also used the Castrol stuff (AccuVission?) but since I've started to use NXT glass cleaner (and since I've discovered that KMart carries the NXT cleaner), the Castrol has just been sitting on the shelf. The NXT is nice because you can clean and treat all in one step!

There are a couple of way's to apply Rain X on to the windshield. There is a spray and a swipe and wipe way. This is the easier way to apply Rain X. This is what I use.

I just spray FD on the glass. (Not the windshield though)

Yes, I just spray & wipe.

Haven't had any problems to speak of yet.

I like RainX on all my windows except the windshield. I've found that it puts a weird film on the window that is noticeable in the evening when lights shine on it.

Also, I found a great alternative at Target called Glass Science that has Glass Scrub and Rain Clear packaged together. The Glass Scrub is just like the stuff we use on our glass-top oven. and Rain Clear is a gel but works just like RainX. I'm always afraid Target will stop carrying it so I buy extras.

Of course, if Meguiars made something similar, I'd of course use that!

It always seems to come off after using windshield wiper fluid on it. Anyone else have this going on?

I use the RainX windshield washer fluid, so it doesn't appear to take the protection off, but adds to it!
