Just to make more clear. The tar remover product will not cause any surface damage. It's the residue of the tar itself along with other surface contaminants that may not totally break down during the cleaning process that could cause surface damage. That's why I mentioned using additional wax to help lubricate the cloth.

That is an excellent point! Does it need to be a paste wax, or would a liquid like #26 work also?

It's a good idea to stay with a liquid wax like #26. Especially since you wouldn't want to contaminate the wax in the paste wax container with a cloth that's been rubbing away at road tar.

I usually leave removing the the road tar until the last step in the process. Then I simply spray some tar remover onto the same cloth that I used for waxing the vehicle. Depending on the severity of the road tar, I'll either add some #2 Fine Cut Cleaner to the cloth to help with the cleaning action or if it's a mild case of road tar, I'll add #26 Yellow Wax.

            Hey Tim,

I have been using this process for a number of years and have never had a problem. The key is to let the tar remover do its job and not get to aggressive while rubbing the surface.
