  • how to remove carbon build up...

Hi, my exhaust is pretty close to my rear bumper, and sticks inways more then out. the other day i noticed a heapload of black carbon exhaust dust on the back and bottom of the rear bumper, i tried whiping it down with some plain car wash and there is allot that will not come off i hope it hasnt burnt the paint job or permanetly stained, is there anything i could use or do to remove it?

Use a paint cleaner like Scratch X first to remove most of the junk, then clay the area to remove any traces. This should do it. Dont forget to at a minimal wax the area for protection reasons. Polish beofre waxing for higher gloss.

Meguiars MPPC would also work well to clean that up. MPPC has some really good cleaning ability.

I would like to compare ScratchX to MPPC some day and see which works better.

Never tried SX before, but I've gone through a few bottles of MPPC in my time.

Either one should clean up the carbon stains though.

I have both Scratch X and Medallion Premium Paint Cleaner, and I tell you they differ. First, the MPPC at a glance looks/ feels just like deep crystal paint cleaner, however I think the MPPC works a lot better than the DC. (This just may be in my head lol). While both Scratch X and MPPC will remove surface contamination fairly well, the Scratch X has much much more "cutting power" It truly amazes me how much cutting action mulitple applications of Scratch X will do! The designated paint cleaners have much less scratch removal ability. Now back to your carbon build-up, as stated the Scratch X, MPPC, or Deep Crystal paint cleaner will more than likely remove it.
Oh and Rusty Bumper, Do yourself a huge favour and go get yourself a bottle of Scratch X. It does wonders in areas where the rotary or D.A. can't get too! I think I use it every detail in some cramped spot!

One thing worth mentioning about MPPC, is that it is more user friendly with a DA polisher.

Yes, I've been meaning to try it.
