I need some advice about using clay to remove contaminants. Do you use it just on the horizontal surfaces? Do you rub it hard or gently glide across the surface? I have a clay bar (like a small bar of soap); do I use the edge or the flat surface?

Hi Henrydog....Clay could not be easier to use !....flatten it out so it's the shape of a silver dollar...then spray a lubricant like Quik Detailer on the car where you intend to start claying...rub the clay on the car like you would rub a bar of soap on your arm...you will be amazed at what comes off...once you're done in one section, move on to another, wiping the excess lubricant off with a MF towel....I've clayed everything on a car including license plates and it works wonders...your paint will feel like glass when you're finished...you may need to use a little passion on contaminants that have been there a while....use plenty of lubricant and you'll soon be a clay convert too !!...good luck

Here's a link to what I'm sure will be much better information from Mike that will really explain and SHOW what to do with clay...it's in process so check back to see the results

Remember to cut the bar into 3 or 4 peices. You cant use clay once you drop it, and you dont want to drop the whole thing at once.

but after a while of using the clay bar, don't you have to reform the bar or can you keep using the same surface? Won't that end up scratching the surface?

Once the clay has some dirt on one side, you can fold it over on itself and re-pancake it out to get a clean surface.

Exactly....it's kinda like kneading pizza dough....keep turning the dirt toward the middle to expose a clean section of clay and you're good to go...you can do this many, many, many times...you'll be surprised how long a piece of clay stays "clean"...
