  • Suitable replacement for #16?

I figured that since I have an extra day off this week that I would get to buff out my car and wax it.

I wanted to use the #20/#16 combo that everyone talks about since my car is white.

Since #16 is discontinued is there a good replacement for it?

I went to Summit Racing and picked up some #83 and the rest was out of stock or not carried!!

So now I have to order the rest and wait.

I will buff out the paint tomorrow or monday with the #83 and use the wax I have for now. I need to do my wife's car too! But that's black and will be more fun!

I'll snap some pics of both as I get them done but my Megs collection is small since I just discovered the pro line and I need a DA to follow the rotary!!

If only I could shake that money tree out back a little harder!

Why not use the new #21 and top it with #26?

I like NXT (x2) and I follow with NXYT Tech Booster after every other wash. IMO, NXT yields a wetter, glossier look than #20. It adds reflections even on white.

I'd just try to track down some #16. It's still out there and a can will last for many years if you apply it nice and thin. I dunno if it's against forum policy for me to post a link to a vendor, but I can think of at least one place worth trying.

          Hey,

I would call around and see if you can still find some #16. If not, I would top the #20 with the #26. I have used #20 for close to 20 years and topped it with either #26 or #16. The #20 is more reflective than NXT, IMHO. But NXT is warmer and deeper. My long time favorite combo on white is #20 topped with #26. My new favorite is #21 on light color and light metallics.

Yes...it is against forum rules to post links to vendors. However, you can always send a PM to that person.

Cool, I want to play by the rules....I don't post here all that often and don't want to step wrong when I do.

If you want to find some 16 check at Auto SUPPLY stores, not Auto Parts or retail stores. If you don't know who does Auto Supply ask some local vehicle paint shops as they will get supplies from a supply store. Also a way to get local access to the full professional line of Meguiars. I bought 4 cans of 16 last week.
It's a small world, but I wouldn't want to have to detail all of it.

I thought about using #26 as I can get it at a parts store. I wasn't sure if it would work as well.

As for supply stores there is one nearby but they close before I can get there and I missed them ever so slightly on saturday. The rest are about 30-45 minutes away and probably close too early for me to make it. But I'll check into it.

I did manage to find it online and emailed them to make sure they had it. I probably wont hear anything till at least tuesday.

I might even try the #21. I just got a bottle of NXT for my wife's black VUE so maybe I'll give that a try too. Maybe I'll tape off 4-5 sections on the hood and give them all a try to see which one I like best!

                  Thanks for the input!

It's a real shame, because there really is NO replacement for #16.
Nothing against #26 but it's not much at all like #16. Other brands make some carnaubas that are closer to #16 than #26 is, but there's nothing like the real thing.
You're best off trying other products and finding something else that you like.
