  • Megs. DA Single Step Correction Advice

Hey guys , I think I have some good ground work practices down/along with some needed tools. Have a daily (mercedes) assuming hard paint like its german counterparts . Moderate swirls & marring from carwashes from its prior owner but not terrible. Looking to single step correct it , not striving for perfection. Happy to get the bulk of the swirls & marring out. Have a swirl finder light , but don't have a paint guage .

A sealant and or diy friendlier coating on it is what i'm looking to apply (no exp. applying coatings) . Something that will give about 1-2 yrs of protection . Have iron / tar remover , also will have to get some clay and prep spray . Any meguiars suggestions here ?

I have a meguiars porter cable 7335 DA polisher , and some DFP6 regular foam polishing pads, and DFF6 finishing pads .

Have used the da on other cars , 3-4 passes speed 3-5 , around 5-10lbs of pressure pending what your trying to remove sound about right . Was thinking of using 205 , but wondering if thats too gentle with the yellow foam pads . Any insight/direction here is much appreciated . Thanks

Welcome! M205 Ultra Finishing Polish applied via our Soft Buff D/A Foam Polishing Disc, especially if you have determined the paint is on the harder side of the bell curve, and your goal is to remove as much as you can but not perfection, is going to be too mild. One option you might consider is applying M205 Ultra Finishing Polish via our D/A Microfiber Finishing Disc. This has proven to be a popular combination for a "one step". It can have compound like cutting ability when used in a certain manner due to it's unique abrasive set. It's one of the most versatile products we have in terms of being able to alter cutting ability, although marketed towards finishing polish. I'll never forget the first time I was exposed to this concept was with Kevin Brown working on Chip Foose's personal truck on the SEMA Central Hall Show Floor, but that's another story.

Anyways something you might consider. Any other route beyond that which is not a cleaner wax, would be a compound, like our M110 Ultra Pro Speed Compound. At this time is best cutting & best finishing compound we make.

You also might consider 5 Inch Diameter Pads for your PC, 6 Inch can lower performance a bit.

As far as protection, based on what you are looking for, our Hybrid Paint Coating would fit, a very DIY friendly coating, but legit 1 year+ protection & super high level performance.

Sounds good, thanks for the tips on the pads & 5" . So gotcha 205 with the microfiber finishing discs. I will look into the hybrid paint coating as well . One more question if I used the hybrid coating & noticed in 1.5yrs its dimished some .

Is a repolish , decon, clay etc. typically needed all over again at that time before re-applying ? I'm sure there's varibales involved as well...
