  • What's the deal with ColorX?

It seems like ColorX is the new buzz word on this forum. Like most people on here, I'm always looking for a new product to use.

I believe that you will get much better results using a dedicated product rather than a one-step method. For example: clean, polish, wax instead of a cleaner/wax. But I've also heard on this site that many people use a cleaner/wax as an alternative during the winter months when they can't spend too much time outside.

That said, what's everyone's opinion on ColorX?

What type of products can it be used with? Deep Crystal? NXT?

How does ColorX compare to M-1216 Cleaner/Wax?

    ColorX and NXT

I just happened to read this yesterday and thought you might find it helpful in answering your questions....Mike P will undoubtedly respond to you but this convinced me to use ColorX...good luck

LOL, right after I posted this thread, I came across that same thread you linked in your post. That was extremely helpful. I'm still curious about a comparision to M-1216

Just to add in, one reason it is so popular is it is really the medium aggressive cleaner in the consumer line.

        DC#1 is mild
        ColorX medium
        ScratchX Agressive

It makes a very good quick combo with Nxt, but has good cleaning/polishing ability as well.

Color X is a super good product. It cleans better then A12 or #6, It gives a higher gloss, and it last longer . All by itself its super but add a coat of NXT or #26 and wow. Clay first , then Color X then if you choose NXT or #26. If the paint needs it you may 2 coats of Color X.

If all these steps are needed, why not just use the Deep Crystal Cleaner, followed by DC Polish, then NXT? I thought ColorX was supposed to be a one-step product. That's why I was comparing it to #12. Don't get me wrong, if ColorX is better than DC1 and DC2, then by all means, it's something I'll use. I see that Murr1525 said that it is a bit more aggresive than DC1, so I'm assuming it's a stronger cleaner that also has some polishing agents

DC#1 is a chemical cleaner. It doesnt have abrasive in it the way ColorX does. If you use ColorX you can avoid using DC1 and DC2 because ColorX is a cleaner/polish.

That's where I'm confused. I thought the same thing about ColorX being a cleaner/POLISH, but then I hear people saying it's a cleaner/WAX, with some polishing ability. I'm hesitant to do away with a pure polish and replace it with a cleaner that has SOME polishing abilities.

I believe I mentioned that i was a cleaner/polish and I was corrected by Mike who said it was a cleaner/wax. I can't seem to find that post so I may be mistaken. Mike, if I am I apologize.

From my understanding, ColorX is a cleaner/wax. IIRC, the protection that it leaves behind is of the polymer type.

ColorX is found in the Shop Online/Consumer Products/Auto Appearance Care/Car Waxes section of Meguiar's website.

To quote from the ColorX description page,
"Meguiar’s COLORx® is the tested and proven one-step system to restore deep color and gloss from your oxidized or contaminated paint finish. In one easy step, our polish and wax combination will dramatically revive brilliant color and add a long lasting protection that locks in the shine. Helps remove fine scratches and swirl marks too."

It is a one -step product, but like anything, an all in one product isnt as good as a 3- separate steps. That said, it fits nicely as a medium agressive cleaner, with good polishing oils. Its wax also lasts well on its own, but for the best protection, a lot of people will top with Nxt, or Gold Class. Plus, different waxes give different looks, and I'd say the Nxt or Gold Class look a bit better than just the ColorX wax.

Just to add my 2 cents in here........I think NXT has the better protection of the two.

If I were to use ColorX, then I would at least top it with NXT on the horizontal surfaces.

looking to spend some time on the ride this weekend...new, black, one coat of NXT but light swirls, nothing scary but want to do better this time and clean it using ColorX...was thinking colorX and then two coats of NXT...any thoughts ?...paint is new and looks really good now so don't want to have my arm fall off with extra steps if they're not needed...hopefully I make sense...been a long week and looking forward to some down time with Shadow (the black car)
