They do not put this information on the bottle. Various Meguiars products have ruined my paint (after waiting about 3 weeks with single stage acrylic eurethane that should be gassed out in 48 hours). Meguiars response? They blamed me.

”Take it to a professional” they said. When I asked why there was no warning on the label they said, “You wouldn’t use it as shampoo either.”

I’m guessing the reason there is no warning on the bottle is because they would sell less product.

Sorry to hear about your experience. We will certainly pass on your feedback to the appropriate people.

The video and your comments tell two different stories and make it difficult to diagnose what may actually be happening here. Not allowing a paint to fully cure before waxing can cause a very specific paint defect called fish eyes. What your video shows is much more consistent with paint failure or simply product residue. Again difficult to tell. Although it is not recommended to wax fresh paint the likelihood of any real damage occurring when applying Cleaner/Wax 3 weeks after painting is incredibly slim. Can you provide the following info...

- How old is this vehicle and how old is the paint specifically?
- Was this car painted professionally?
- Did you apply this wax on any other portion of the vehicle? What was that like and how does it look?
- How long did the product dry before you tried to remove it?
- What did you use to attempt to wipe off the wax?

There are probably more questions but starting with these should help.

I don’t see how the age of the vehicle matters. It is a 1965 car. I painted the car myself, like I said about 3 weeks ago and while I was generally happy with the paint, I wanted more shine. I follwed the instructions on the bottle. I have attempted to remove it with the buffer shown in the video and by hand (soap, water, sponge, then rubbing when dry) and it wont come off. I have not tried it on other parts of the car.

I also really want to emphasize how rediculous of a response your rep had to my questioning why there is no warning on the label, “You wouldn’t use this as shampoo, either.” This is car polish, which I was using to polish a car.

In that link, You said "The paint is not as smooth as I would like it to be. I did not aggressively color sand it, but that may be my next step.".
Did you color sand it at all?
If so, what process did you use? Grit(s) Wet/Dry? Hand/hard block/soft block/finger tips?

Which polyurethane paint did yo use?
There is quite a range. I asked an affordable shop to compare their polyurethane paint to Dupont IMRON. They said theirs was equivalent to adding one thimble of IMRON to regular paint. So it would scratch really easy. Terry cloth will scratch soft paint too.

We understand you are frustrated as any of us would be having to deal with this.

After reading through the information you provided within this thread & your thread on Autogeek, you stated 4 different products were used with a similar experience. This information was not included within your video or this thread. It also has just been brought to my attention you spoke with us on the phone yesterday and stated these products were applied shortly after painting the vehicle, within 48 hours or less, not after three weeks like you stated here.

The fact that you have used 4 different products, all with a very different formulation, further reinforces our conclusion that this is something wrong with the paint chemistry on your vehicle, not the car care products you are using on it.

From my 15 years experience in detailing, I can tell by looking something has gone wrong with the paint chemistry & your painting process.

I just got off the phone with a regional sales manager of ours, who has owned a body shop & worked with paint shops for decades, he stated without even seeing a picture that something must have happened in your painting process, and the car wax is not to blame.

Mike Phillips of Autogeek, who has all but devoted his life to detailing knowledge, has stated within your thread on his forum that he has never seen a wax be the cause of this an issue like this in his life.

From here our recommendation would be to consult with a professional automotive painter for direction.

If you applied these products after 3 weeks & this still happened, that easily tells us something is seriously wrong with how the paint was applied. It's not the fault of the product. We would suggest an automotive specific wax & grease remover solvent. These can typically be purchased from an autobody or automotive paint supply store.
