Carnauba sweating/Ghosting

Hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone with any ideas could lead me in the right direction. With several waxes (mainly swissvax, dodo juice supernatural and even meguiars carnauba wax, the one in the red bottle) Ive experienced sweating, in other words, a cloudy appearance on the paint after leaving it in the sun after all wax has been buffed off. Whenever I apply wax I make sure its as thin as possible and do a second buff 1 hour after the original haze has been buffed off. Is there any way to stop carnauba sweating or ghosting from happening? Im in Australia so right now we're in winter but I'm dreading when the summer months approach..

Surprised to hear you are having so much trouble! Especially when stated you are applying thin & I also saw you comment in another thread regarding the use of quality microfiber towels.

You are welcome to discuss any products you would like on this forum, but I can't speak for the other waxes you have mentioned application recommendations, or "diagnose" any trouble you are having with them, since I am not familiar with them. Other may be able to respond regarding these.

When it comes to the application of our (i'm assuming you are referring to our) Deep Crystal Carnauaba Wax, how long are you allowing the product to dry on the paint before removing?

On the vehicles or vehicle you are having trouble with, what was your preparation work like on the paint prior to applying the wax? Was the vehicle clayed with Detailing Clay or were any cleaner or polishes used?

Ghosting can happen if the paint is already treated with silicone based coating OR sealants with very high hydroponic effect.

And you didn't mention the type of MF you're using. You should use a 'medium pile' MF for wax buffing. In other words, soft but not too plushy and you should be able to feel the threads gripping your palm when passing your hand over it. Those posh high pile plushy MF is no good because individual threads are usually bent towards each other which spreads the residual around instead of effectively picking them up.

also try dampen the MF abit during final wipe down followed by your choice of QD spray. I personally prefer cheap gallon size final inspection spray.

I personally recommend a 'three stage' buffing if ghosting is a big issue:

1, buff after product's recommended drying time, this step should remove most of the residues .

2,wait over night and bake the paint under the sun to check for ghosting and missed spots .

3, QD the entire car under shade to eliminate ghosting. Use the cheapest QD you can find.

I use low-medium pile towels and then after about one hour after the buff off I use a high pile towel to lightly buff away any remaining residue I missed.

Yeah that's fair enough Nick. Yes, it's the deep crystal wax. I'll give you a more detailed run through of my process:
-Wash the car with meguiars soft wash gel;
-Clay bar the car with clay magic clay bar using meguiars quik detailer as a lubricant;
-Fill in light marring with poorboys black hole glaze;
-Finish with deep crystal carnauba wax;

With regards to the drying time of the wax, I apply it to two panels at a time, let it dry for about 10 minutes (takes a while to dry here as we are in winter at the moment) I do the swipe test to make sure it has dryed and then wipe the haze with a medium pile towel. I then go over the car again with a high pile towel to make sure all residue is gone. In winter this ghosting effect is only observed on the hood, probably from the engine heat.
