Abrasive equivalency and respirator

I'm wondering if there are any guidelines that equate meguiar's compounds to FEPA/JIS? Something like "diamond cut is roughly equal to P1200 grit" (or whatever). It would make it a hell of a lot easier when choosing a product to follow color sanding!

I'm also wondering if I should have breathing protection while using a rotary buffer and no ventilation. Are there MSDS online somewhere?

Nothing like this exists because there are too many variables, such as paint hardness of softness. What works great on one paint system on day, may not work on the same paint system the next day because of how hard or soft it is.
