  • How to remove/improve scratches on plastic trim?

    Hi guys,

I have a newer car with gloss black plastic trim around the gear shift which has acquired a few scratches from normal use. The most noticeable scratch isn't deep enough to catch your fingernail but is noticeable. I have a basic understanding on how to keep my exterior protected and looking nice but I'm unsure on how to tackle this problem. My first thought is either Plastx or a cleaner wax on a foam pad because even if they don't improve they shouldn't do anymore harm, but I'd appreciate your input.

I'm sorry for the large picture.

Plast-X should handle that. Be patient, go slow and be careful of the PRNDL lettering if it's silkscreened from the top. On nasty scratches, I like to start with a terry applicator first, as it's more aggressive, then progress to microfiber or foam for the final finish.

Another option is using a polish like Ultimate Polish or M205. Stepping up to ultimate compound if needed.

Thanks guys! I'll give Plast-x a shot and see where that gets me.
