  • Which Wheel cleaner if any to use on MATT BLACK wheels?

ok well for awhile now i have just been using soap and water clean my wheels which is fine but i wanted to know if there is anything that meguiars offers that can be safely used to cut the brake dust and help clean matt finish wheels without damaging them. the only thing ive found is chemical guys diablo wheel gel which you dilute but to me that just seems like soap and water in the end.

The biggest issue is making sure you don't let the wheel cleaner dry at all on the surface of the wheel.

Personally I would try out D143. That is what I will be using on my wheels that have a Matte clear powder coat on the centers.

      Hi dedonderosa,

When choosing a wheel cleaner, we first suggest finding out from the manufacturer what the wheel is made of & coated with. For example is it a powdercoated wheel, painted wheel, painted & clear coated wheel, chrome, un-coated polished aluminum, anodized, etc. It is also recommend to check with the manufacturer of the wheels for their proper care recommendations. From there we can help make a good recommendation.

      Hope this helps!

dedonderosa, you should give our Mirror Bright Wheel Cleaner a go - it's fantastic on matte/satin black wheels. We have two cars at home with aftermarket black matte/satin wheels and even I was really cautious about how I maintain them, using nothing but our Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner (which both sets of wheels seemed to really love!). But I never let either set get really dirty (one is my weekend toy and the other is my wife's car but it doesn't produce much brake dust) so Aluminum Wheel Cleaner was more than up the task.

Mirror Bright Wheel Cleaner is pH balanced and safe on all wheel surfaces, including bare, high polished aluminum. It also contains some of the ingredient that reacts with iron deposits and changes color when doing so. Because of that, if you do have a bit of brake dust build up, it will do a great job cleaning the wheels while still being totally safe. It's still a good idea, of course, to clean one wheel at a time from start to finish, so that you avoid having the product self dry on the surface. You also want to make sure the wheels are nice and cool to the touch before using any wheel cleaner.

We would second Mr. Stoop's response above. Either our Hot Rims Aluminum Wheel Cleaner or our new Mirror Bright Wheel Cleaner if you are in need of more cleaning ability.
