  • Bubble - What is this?

    Hi All!

So, I was just out waxing our 2015 Kia Sportage LX that is red in color. When I got to the rear tailgate, I noticed that at the very bottom of it there are 2 "bump" type of things. They are hard, and are about the size of a needle point (maybe a tad bigger). Is this the paint, or some type of contamination? I attempted to remove it with some compound, but that didn't work. I don't want to do something I shouldn't, so I thought I would ask on here.

My only other thought is rust bubbles? The car only has 7k miles on it. I tried to take pictures, but it's so small I couldn't get its to show up.

Any thoughts? Has anyone else seen what I'm talking about on cars (paint jobs?)

    Thanks!

I'd say a defect in the paint job. Since it's fairly new I'd take it to the dealer, maybe they'd pay to get that spot fixed at a body shop.

Without a picture, it could be anything. Paint defect, rust bubble, clearcoat bubble, or pimples.

If it's been repainted they could be "nibs", little globs of paint/clear - this is unlikely on a factory robot-painted car. If the part is plastic, they could be flasking imperfections or registration marks in the part itself, not the paint - this is more likely if they are evenly placed from the centerline. Hard to say without a good macro shot. I'd leave them alone until you know for sure, because if you "break" them off, you could have two non-red dots left to deal with.
