  • Getting more of a mirror finish after UC, what to use?

    Hi all,

I thought I'd try out Ultimate Compound on my car. The paint wasn't in the best condition (car is a 1990, from Japan) as seen in the first picture:

The Ultimate Compound got most of the oxidation off:

I noticed that there are dark blemishes in the paint. Is that clear coat damage? Is there any way to bring it back to a consistent color?

I'm ultimately looking for a sharper mirror finish. I tried Ultimate Polish in a smaller area to see if that improved the gloss, but it didn't.

FYI, I'm applying the UC and UP by hand.

Any advice on what to do next (getting back to a consistent color and increasing gloss) would be greatly appreciated!

What was your technique out of interest?
Did you just rub it on and then take it off like a wax?

You could follow up with Ultimate Polish like I did.

For both you should be working it in until it goes semi clear and breaks down, ideally with an orbital

I did it by hand using a microfiber cloth. I applied the Ultimate Compound in a circular motion with pressure for about 20 seconds or so, after which I wiped it clean before it dried.

I tried the ultimate polish using the same technique, but it didn't make much of a difference.

If using an orbital, would it help sharpen up the reflection?
