  • Some Newbie Questions

I'm a regular forum user but new to MOL. I've spent alot of hours researching but I need a little spoon feeding, please. I have a '16 Black Tucson with 500 miles, in my possession 24 days. This is my first brand new vehicle and I want to keep the black paint immaculate. Wednesday, I foamed gunned and rinsed twice, I two bucket washed the car, used a dedicated leaf blower to dry and blotted the rest of the water. I applied UQW after. Today, I didn't make it to the garage before rain hit the vehicle. So, I will wash it again tomorrow. Should I also apply UQW after? I have read that most people do it after every wash.

By next week, I also want to get NXT 2.0 on it, but the water was beading up so nicely before my Wednesday wash I just went with UQW. I bought clay and cleaner wax, but I am honestly terrified of marring the paint. I don't have a DA to correct it, if it were to happen, and that would totally mess with my state of mind. I have to fork over 2.4K in taxes and registration this month, so I won't be buying one for a bit. Is there a chance that the cleaner wax will mar my clear? To avoid that risk, should I just wash the car with Dawn, to get off the factory wax, so I can apply the NXT?

Another question; instead of the white cleaner wax, should I use the Mequiar's Black Wax? Would that lessen any marring chance?

Wash, Black Wax, NXT Wax, UQW.

      Re: Some Newbie Questions

Welcome to MOL. It looks like you are going to be working hard on that being that black is the hardest color to maintain. But it can be done.

Ultimate Quik Wax is a maintenance product for waxes and sealants. It can be used stand alone like you used it. The protection it leaves behind is not as durable as a dedicated sealant or wax.

Claying can sometimes marr. A cleaner wax or a polish will remove that marring if it does happen. Marring is also caused by improper washing techniques. Well hopefully the dealer did not wash it before you received it because they can instill DISO( Dealer Installed Swirl Option). You can find more info on that with a search on google. A cleaner wax will clean, polish and protect the paint. It will remove anything that was applied prior to it being applied.

A12 (burgundy container), white wax and black wax can be used on any color. This graphic should give you an idea of the what each cleaner wax does

White wax = offers more correction

Black wax = offers more polishing oils

White wax and black wax contain SMAT abrasives in them. Do not let this scare you from using either one. They are clear coat safe.

With regards to Dawn. Save that for the dishes. Use a dedicated car wash.

You can certainly top a cleaner wax with another product that lasts longer such as NXT or Ultimate Wax. Their longevity will be affected as these paint sealants prefer to bond to bare paint. But that doesn't mean it will wash off after one wash.

If you want something quick you can wash, clay, cleaner wax, UQW. Then you can use UQW after every wash as a drying aid, every wash or every other wash.

      Hope this helps

Just use light pressure when claying, and plenty of lubrication.

And use good quality applicators and towels.

Why not Ultimate Paste? What I've read it's better than NXT. I won some NXT but not sure when to use it because I already have Ultimate.

Can't go wrong with either one. One is not better than the other. Ultimate Wax will last a little longer than NXT. Ultimate wax also has newer technology which makes it quicker to remove. Both do the job in protecting the paint.
