  • Need help beginning detailer!

    Hi everyone!

I just got a brand new BLACK Mercedes GLA250 and want to keep it as best as possible.

Washing: I use 2 buckets, grit guards, wash mitt, and Meguiar's Gold Class Shampoo.

Drying: To dry, I use water magnet drying towels by Meguiar. They work great!

Questions! (Please Help, I can't find any answers LOL)

    1) How do I wash my wash mitt and water magnet drying towels? The women in the family do the laundry and I hear that car mitts and towels are different!

***My friend recommends I get the majority of the water using the water magnet towel and then using Meguiar's D15501 Last Touch Spray Detailer and a microfiber. Other people have said to use Meguiar's M13501 Synthetic Spray Detailer because it is hydrophobic and the water magnet tool gets wet at the end of the drying process that even when I dry it, there is still some water there.***

    2) Can I use Meguiar's M13501 Synthetic Spray Detailer with a microfiber cloth after drying even though I have never polished or waxed my new car yet?????

    3) My parents got me a microfiber cloth from 99Cents Store and I don't know how it is but it feels extremely soft! Like very soft that I don't think it'll damage the car. Is that okay? Just because it's from a dollar store I don't think it's bad.

I want to wax using Collinite 845. In terms of polish, I don't think I need it for a new car from what people say? Thank you for your patience or reading! )
I know I'll become a great detailer some day, I may make scratches or swirls but it's from mistakes that you learn!

You can dry the entire car and follow up with another towel using a quick detailer or spray wax using a dedicated microfiber towel like a Meguiar's supreme shine microfiber towel. The other option is sheet rinsing the car and using a quick detailer or spray wax as a drying aid. Search drying aid as it's been discussed plenty of times on the forum.

Yes it can be used without either. Just don't go and expect the quick detailer to offer a lot of protection.

As I stated in your other thread, invest in quality towels. You risk the potential to instill defects onto the paint with cheap towels.

New cars can have just as many defects as an older car. Google DISO and see what I mean. New cars sit on the dealer lots for months and are exposed to contaminants. Google the baggie test and clay and you will see how to use that method to determine if the car needs to be clayed.

I want to apply wax soon. Would it be safe to dry with the water magnet towel, use the D156, and then apply wax? Or should I apply D156 once my car has been waxed?
