  • Tire Shine - Damage?

    Hey All!

So, I washed my car on Friday and sprayed some Armoral Extreme Tire Shine on my SUV tires (have a red 2015 KIA Sportage SX). Anyway, I received the Armoral as an X-Mas present, so I thought I'd give it a try. The bottle says to shake well and spray 4-6 inches away from the tire. I followed the directions, and noticed today that I had a ton of "tiny spots" on the side of my doors and up by my luggage racks. I was able to wipe them away with my finger if I rubbed them, but since there were so many I took it to the DIY car wash and high pressure rinsed the car. It seems like it got almost all of them off, but I was wondering for future reference if that will harm the cars paint if it sits on it?

I am positive it wasn't tree sap as it was easily removable, and I put my car in the garage. It just took the sun to see it, so it obviously sat on the paint all night. The few I did see after the car wash came off with meguiars ult. detailer.

Anyway, I just wanted to know if this is a danger to paint?

    Thanks!

Next time wipe the tire down after application to remove any excess product. This will help you avoid any slinging. It should come off with soap. If not you may have to polish. It should not harm the paint but I am not familiar with the chemistry of Armor all. Consider switching to a water based tire gel.

Sling from a dressing or ovespray is pretty common, haven't seen any piaint damage from it.

You may want to spray on an applicator then apply..

I use the same stuff (sorry Meguiar's) in the aerosol can, as well as the tire foam version, depending on conditions. If spraying, try not to put on any more than will just cover the sidewall in a light coat (more will not really look any different when dry), and let the vehicle sit for an hour or so, depending on weather. Any sling after that should be minimal, if at all.

I once watched a good ole boy at a car show empty an entire bottle on his truck tires, yes, enough to puddle on the ground. You could smell the stuff for hours

I mostly use the same stuff also. Wallymart sometimes has 2 cans of Black Magic for the same price as the Armorall. Anyway it will not hurt paint, but probably will remove wax. I spray my tires and leave the cars over night. Nothing left in the morning except nice clean mat black tires.
