  • Steel wheels....

I'll discuss the difference on steel versus alloy wheels at the bottom. Just want to get opinions here first. Ok?

Have a 2014 Corolla with steel wheels and hubcaps. The wheels show though the hubcaps very much. I'm thinking only a good sealer/polish would be good for the steel wheels. Not trying to make them look great. Just keep the rust off and clean looking. What would you do?

I have considered alloy wheels. Mostly because they're easier to clean. Lets face it. To clean right. I have to pull these hubcaps off. Clean the wheels. Then after cleaning the hubcaps, put them back on. Alloy wheels are easier. Yes, alloy looks better. I always had alloy wheels for many years. Now? Lets say I'm still rebellious. I kinda like these wheels and hubcaps. They look ok. To me, it's kinda a; no BS look... I'm not trying to impress anyone. Do have to admit... alloy will still be easier to maintain.

    Re: Steel wheels....

That is about all you can do with them..sealer/wax. (not a polish) Check frequently for the formation of rust and touch up with a little black rust paint. I have my winter steel wheels coated in an oil based rust inhibitor but you probably would not want to go there as it tends to attract dust and dirt, which in my case doesn't matter, because the rest of the car is pretty much coated in salt. I would rather them greasy and dirty than dry and rusty.
