Ha! I have Ultimate Compound too--bought it to remove swirl marks that an auto car wash inflicted on the silver hatchback.

After that experience, have gone touchless ever since--and has been totally worth it.

So the plan is, MF foam finishing pads (dealership did its best but you know how they are), since the car was essentially undriven before I got it, least aggressive to start with.

I do have a HF DA, but haven't seen the issues others have with it. Although I suppose I spend more on pads than if I had a better DA.

Of course, will clay before polish/wax.

Great suggestions all! Hope to figure out how to post before and after shots.

      Re: Swirl marks

      Hi All!

While I was rooting around, noticed I have two new wool finishing pads in my detailing kit.

Would those be too aggressive for the swirl marks?

or would it depend on what compound I paired them with?

      Thanks.

Oh, another thing: Seems that I got the tail end of US production. Hyundai appears set to axe the model because it's stuck between the Sonata and the base model Genesis--both nice cars with much better market appeal.

Just glad I leased so I won't be subject to an upside down trade in a couple years.

Sticking with the Hyundai brand, though--have been pleased with them overall.

Test spot with the least aggressive combo. Start of with UP + polishing foam pad + DA and go from there. No need to over think it.

Thanks Guz! Always the simplest is the best!

Always use the least aggressive method first!

IMHO wool is about the most aggressive pad there is.

Good point--will put those away until I get a vehicle that really needs them.

And wool doesn't generally play well with DA's. It is prone to leaving tick marks, and is more suited to a rotary (if you're getting really agressive).

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Sounds like I could permanently damage my new car if I used the wool pads.

                      Thanks for the warning!!

Question---having a hard time finding Meguiar's polishing pads here in Reno (go figure).

                        Any suggestions?

                        Thanks.

                          Re: Swirl marks

I don't see Megs foam pads or microfiber discs on the shelf most places.
                          Again, for a DA I would suggest a DBP5 backing plate and 5" pads/discs.
For polishes I might suggest starting with D300 or Ultimate Compound.

Unless theres a detailing store or car wash that carries then you'll have to order online, no way around it.

I've just gone ahead and ordered all my Megs pads on-line, it's just easier and I can buy them in a 6 pack.

                                Hey Guys!

Was reviewing the most recent photos from the Miata Club event, and the 'before' pic looked like an 'after' pic of my car after I did the #9 Mirror Glaze polish with HF DA and GG foam pad--essentially the finish is somewhat better than when delivered from the dealership, but nowhere near how good it would look with the proper correction.

SO, I'm going to buy DCF5 pads from Amazon, paired with M205 (available at my local AutoZone), and set upon correcting the finish when the weather clears.

I know it will eventually. Just hasn't yet.

                                Any thoughts?

                                Thanks.

By the way, nearly at 4000 miles, and I've had the car less than 60 days .
