Finally bought a DA, can I have some advice please?

Hello,

I've finally bought a DA (I've returned the DA power system because the one I got was full of rust on the Velcro and the screw of the "backing plate") with the new Meguiars foam discs (one set) that I will use with UC, UP and UW, what are the minimum temperature to be able to buff a car? Right now there's sun with 0 to 5, is it too low?

My UC bottle was opened on August '15 when I've got the chance to use it with the DA pwr system getting great result in the test spot (sorry I didn't take 50/50 shots ) how much it lasts?

My car got a few deep scratches on the door panels that has been worked by someone else with the "correction pen" how do I need to treat this kind of scratch? Can I pass over it with the DA or do I need to tape them? I don't think to make them look better, but I would like to be shire to not make them even worse!

Whenever you use a dedicated product that affects the paint, like a compound or polish, you typically want to followed those steps with some protection from a wax, or sealant.

Your results from Ultimate Compound should be followed by Ultimate Wax in your case, to help preserve the results.

I don't like to polish in temperatures below 45

Toki, these products should last years in a sealed bottle. For the scratches, try a little mild compounding and see how it progresses. I wouldn't do this if it's uncomfortably cold outside, though, and would wait for a mild day. You need to be comfortable so that you can do careful work and not get in a hurry. Hope that helps

You do not need to tape over the area with the scratches. The products you are using (UC > UP > UW) may actually make the scratches appear better -- it depends on your technique, and how deep the scratches are to begin with.

You may want to do a test spot on an area with the scratches on the door panels to make sure you are getting the results you desire. Otherwise, you have have to switch pads and/or products.

Congrats on getting a D/A Polisher. Our minimum recommendation for the use of all of our products is 55 Degrees Fahrenheit. It is going to be best to wait for a warmer day or work in a heated garage. Working time of compounds & polishes can be affected, the ability of the compounds & polishes to do their job can be affected, waxes may not properly dry or cure in extreme temperatures, etc.

Our products have a shelf life of 3 - 5 years, and should not be exposed to extreme heat or cold.

Do you happen to have any pictures of these scratches which were treated with a correction pen? Is that a touch up paint style product?

Nicholas Winn, thanks for the detailed answer at every question I made, I'm glad to have asked about what is the minimum temperature to work with Meguiars product, I think this will help other people.

I have a picture of one of the correction scratch, but I want to make clear a few things before:

Unfortunately I don't know what kind of problem there was before of the correction because I bought the car as is

I already know that I'll not correct the problem myself, because I'm assuming that the scratch underneath is way deep to be able to correct with a D/A.

What I would like to do is to remove the correct pen, to me it's really ugly, but prior to start working on this area I'd like to know from expert like the people on this great place if I'll risk to ruin the paint (if possible) more than how it is right now.
