  • Protectant Dust and Stain resistance

I have Ultimate Protectant on my interior vinyl and dashboard right now, and I love the look of it.

But it doesn't seem to have that dust repelling slickness of maybe some of the other Megs interior protectants. It feels a little more sticky than the others right now. I buffed off any excess with a microfiber towel, but it still has a little of that feeling. Now my car is a sit-outside car, and I live in Chicago, so my car has sat in some 20 degree weather over the past several days after I had applied it to my interior. So them temps could be causing a little of that. So I will wait on that.

But in the mean time, Are some of the Megs Interior protectants better at dust and stain repelling more than Ultimate Protectant, or should they all be the same?

Thank you all and have a great week ahead!

Ultimate Protectant shouldn't be sticky at all. The temps you are working in could be effecting this.

Also make sure you have a clean surface to work with before applying. There might be some other product on the surface that is interfering.

After applying and letting the product sit for a minute are you coming back with a clean dry towel to knock down any remaining residue?

Thank you for the reply Dasburninator. I wanted to make sure that I had cleaned as well as I possibly could. so I cleaned it twice VERY good with Megs APC. Then after that, I had cleaned it all down with an IPA solution. I even went over it a second time with IPA to even go overboard with it. lol! Ocd kickin' in!

After letting my dash and vinyl sit for a few hours I came back to apply the product with a foam applicator pad.

And I DIDN'T wipe the excess product off just after I applied it, because I was afraid of wiping too much off. This morning, I then went back in the car and wiped my dash down. The gloss was dimmed down, but still it had a slight stickiness to it as i wiped my hand across it.

APC can sometimes leave a sticky feeling behind. Perhaps the dash was dry and needed more hydration.

What are you using to apply the product with? If you are not already, we would suggest applying with a clean soft foam applicator pad, like our X3070 Soft Foam Applicator. Using this style applicator helps one use a small amount of product, spread the product very evenly, as well as work the product thoroughly into the surface.

We would also agree the low temperatures could be contributing to your experience. Also in regards to using IPA to wipe down the dash, we would not suggest getting into the habit of this practice! Pretty much any interior surface like vinyl is not going to be a fan of alcohol overtime.

Quoting this for importance. IPA can dry out the material and cause fading/cracking. It will leach out the oils in the plastics/vinyl.

Thank you greatly guys! You are always VERY helpful, and I will begin to do things as you have said. As for the APC, I used 4:1, so that could have left a lot more residue than normal as well.

Try the APC at 10:1 as 4:1 is a bit on the strong side for interior usage. Are you agitating the APC with something like a horse hair brush? It helps

I would also suggest making a pass with just a damp towel after wiping up the APC to get any residue off.

Quik Interior Detailer has a light cleaning ability. That is more than enough to get a dash clean as long as it's not heavily soiled. You can follow up with any of the protectants.

It's fun learning this stuff, although they are mistakes currently. I am hoping this will, in the long run, help me to be a better detailer on other people's vehicles.

Yea I've cut my teeth on my own vehicle plenty of times. Every time it happens I'm happy it didn't happen on someone else car.
I've made fine scratches on my grille thx to using the wrong grade of steel wool, turned a dime sized hole on my center console into a a hole the size of 2 silver dollars thanks to my steamer, made a small chip in my paint by accidentally jamming the gas pump directly into my paint instead of into the fuel door, made a nice scratch near the bottom portion of my bumper when I picked up a little rock with the claybar and dragged it along the paint, accidentally vacuumed my cat into my shop vac lol.

All stuff you'd never want to happen on someone else's vehicle, ya know

On an interior that hasn't ever been maintained/has remaining product of some sort that could be causing issues? Nah.

I use this method for stripping any dressings off twice a year on my cars to start fresh. Or if I am playing with a new product.

Dang Eldorado2k! I don't feel so bad now. Thanks for the pick-me-up! LOL! I think the worst one I ever did, was when I was about 13 years old. I always saw my Dad washing and detailing his car. So I decided I was going to surprise him, and one day when he took our other car out, I started washing and detailing his car. Even though I didn't know to much about it. I noticed a lot of tar and bugs on the hood of the car, and then also on the sides of the car. So I got an sos steel wool pad, and began scrubbing off all of the tar and bugs. After I sprayed the whole car off, I noticed all of the scratches everywhere!!! Let me tell you, I think I still have a mark on my backside from that one.

                              UPDATE:

I actually went into the car today, and noticed it needed a little more product in some areas. So I re-applied the Ultimate Protectant, and after I did, I then buffed it down with a clean Microfiber towel. Everything feels and looks beautiful now. Still to this day, I do not understand why there is not more reviews, including more positive reviews about Ultimate Protectant, especially being used as a interior protectant. I'm wondering if it's because people are confused as what to use it on, since it doesn't say Interior Protectant on it. I'm wondering if it said ultimate "Interior Protectant" if it would receive much more reviews say on AG because it has a more specific use. I think that's why UB eventually started getting more individual reviews, because it specified it's use was for Exterior Trim, instead of it simply being called Ultimate Protectant in the past, when it was more defined as both interior use and exterior use.

Either way, I love it, and it makes the interior of my car beautiful. So That's all that matters now.

                              Thanks guys!
