    Hi All,

Relatively new poster here. I have always preferred chrome wheels over painted or black. For my newest car, the wheels I chose are actually bright PVD, which looks very similar to chrome (link below).

They are supposed to be resistant to the salt/brine that gets thrown out on our upper midwest roads with abandon. They are not on the car right now, as they are my 3 season wheels, with the OE wheels having winter tires. Somewhat surprisingly, the dealer has warned about using commercial wheel cleaners and other products on these wheels. He even said the boxes the wheels came in had warning tags stating "Soap and Water Only". He claims that he has seen manufacturer videos showing cleaners (presumably acid based) being sprayed on PVD wheels, and the coating literally melting off of the wheels, leaving bare metal.

While I believe he is well intended, my OCD self wants to believe there has to be SOME safe protective product for these wheels. I see that Eagle One makes a PVD and Aluminum Cleaner, but thus far I have had no difficulty getting them clean. I can't help but wonder if a spray sealant, or even a cleaner/abrasive free liquid sealant would be safe.

Any experience or suggestions for keeping them looking nice and protected?

I am not familiar with PVD, but I think I would certainly follow the dealer's advice. Alternatively go to the site of the link you provided and hit the CONTACT button, and send them an email for advice. Pretend you are planning to buy four and want to know how to care for them.

I agree with the ole #16 again. Don't let your OCD create more work and a possible expensive disaster for you. Spend your time keeping your windows clean. hehe.

From my understanding, PVD is a powder coating process. Thus you can treat them like paint with compound and polishes. You can also seal them with a wax or sealant of your choice. Powder coating is a bit harder to correct.

I would not use any wheel cleaners on them. I would stick to a car shampoo and water.

Thanks for the replies. This thread reveals part of my frustration, no consensus.

I have sent an email to the company.

No one out there with first hand experience??
