  • PlastX question

I'm wondering if a light cleaning/polish of headlights with PlastX, once or twice a year on a new vehicle, would compromise the longevity of the lense's UV coating?

Is there a better product to use for this purpose that will clean/polish but not compromise the UV coating?

I'm using Megs Headlight Protectant but I think it's just a sealer- not a cleaner. Seems like a cleaning once in awhile might delay hazing.

    Re: PlastX question

If it's a new car then wash them during your normal wash process. Seal them with Headlight Protectant every 6-8 weeks as recommended and you would be good.

When or if they start to get hazy then use plastx.

You may want to consider looking into some xpel type film. That will protect them longer.

Thanks Guz. My truck is only about a year old but there is a very slight haze to them. I'd hate to remove even a microscopic thickness of uv coating, but if it's best to get the haze off I would do it.

Ultimate polish may be something else to try.

Thought about it some more. I forgot about Meguiar's #17. It's a non abrasive cleaner.

I wrote a review on it.

I picked both of these products up at my local O'Reilly. I have heard good things about this combination. Pulled the information on both from this thread. I found it available at my local O'Reilly.

Thanks Guz. Ha I'd actually already read your review. And have since bought the 10/17. I think I've used it on every plastic item in my house! Plan to attack the headlights soon.
