  • Is Black Wax Safe on Fresh Paints

Can someone please tell me is it safe to apply black wax on about one week old paint job? thanks!

No it is not. It is typically recommended to wait 30 days until applying any wax on a fresh paint job.

I personally waited 90 days until I put anything on the aftermarket hood I have on my car.

Meguiar's came out with M305 which can be applied to fresh paint.

We would recommend allowing 60-90 days for the fresh paint to cure before using any wax or any product which contains wax. It is always best to check with the painter or paint shop for their recommendations as well. A good practice would be to wash weekly and/or use a Quik Detailer spray (which does not contain wax) for light dust & fingerprint removal. A polish can also be used to keep up a high gloss during this period, while still allowing the paint to cure.

M305 Ultra Finishing Durable Glaze, as the Guz has pointed out, is a new product for this year, a breathable, silicone free protectant for a body shop environment or fresh paint application. This product is not necessary to use for your situation, but is a nice option to provide longer lasting protection compared to a traditional polish if you prefer.

Nick so would Meguiar's still recommend the 30-90 day interval even with M305? Or can M305 be used prior to that window until something more durable an be applied?

Meguiar's M305 Ultra Durable Finishing Glaze can be used during the curing time on fresh paint. It will still allow the paint to out gas and cure, un-like a wax.

Thanks Nick and Guz for the advice! I have M205. I'll check If I can find a product called M305 in my country. Is there a big difference between the two products M205 and M305 ?

Yes, M205 is a polish, M305 is a glaze that is safe for a freshly painted vehicle.
