  • Which wax (sealant) stains less: NXT 2.0 Liquid vs. Ultimate Paste

Hello, I'm new to this forum, but I've gained a lot of useful information browsing past threads.

After reading a number of threads which discuss the ease of application of various waxes (to
avoid streaking, for instance), I have concluded that I want to use one of the following
    two waxes:
    1) NXT 2.0 in liquid form
    2) Ultimate Paste Wax

Both of these are reported to stain plastic trim to some degree. (I know Ultimate Liquid Wax is the
safest in terms of staining, but it apparently can be trickier to use without streaking, so I decided
    upon the two listed above.)

Of these two, which would be safer in terms of staining plastic trim?

    Cheers,
    John

They are probably about the same in staining trim.

ULW and Paint Protect will not stain trim. ULW is not any trickier than using NXT. The key is to apply thin.

In regards to the trim either be careful when applying or tape off the trim.

I agree, liquid waxes are usually easier to apply and less likely to stain (eg.NXT liquid vs. Paste). But with the ultimate paste, thanks to its thin film technology, it applies almost as thinly as the NXT liquid.

        I agree with Guz.

But having said that, if/when you do get some NXT on your trim, it's still no issue as long as you wipe it off ASAP and don't wait for it to dry. I haven't tried UPW, so I can't really comment, but I'm pretty sure it would behave the same.

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

And that's the key. Try as we might to avoid getting any wax on black plastic trim, it does happen. But it's usually only a problem if you let it dry and then sit for a long time. Keep a microfiber towel handy (throw one over your shoulder while applying the wax) and just pay attention to what you're doing. If you see that you've gotten some on the trim just wipe it off immediately and thoroughly so it doesn't have a chance to dry. Problem solved, really.

As for the choice between NXT Tech Wax 2.0 liquid and Ultimate Wax paste, personally I'd go UW paste every time. And I like NXT quite a bit, so that's saying something!!

I'm usually pretty careful not to get wax on the trim, but I just wanted to check if one was clearly safer than the other.
It sounds like they both should be okay provided I wipe the wax off right away before it has a chance to dry. Michael's suggestion
of keeping a microfiber towel handy for that purpose is a good one.

I like what I'm hearing about UW paste, so I'm going to try that one.
            It should be fun!

            Thanks, everyone!

See, I like the NXT 2.0, and tend to use it more than ULW, or paste.

Even with the durability and more up to date technology of Ultimate Wax, NXT 2 is not without its charm. I like the liquid NXT 2 a lot, but for now I have the paste version. I find that NXT 2 gives a thicker, candy toned look vs. Ultimate’s more crisp, sharper reflections. Both are good though, however I do find that Ultimate gives more depth.
