I am new to clay and am unsure of it's uses and how it is to be applied. My avatar (left of this message) is my 99 Saturn also pics available in gallery. Can anyone tell by these if my car needs clay? If so how would I do it?

The best way to tell if your car needs to be clayed is to first wash the vehicle. After the vehicle has been washed, place your hand in a ziplock or sandwich bag and wipe over the surface. If the surface feels rough and the bag does not slide over the paint smoothly, you will need to clay. I like to clay after the car has been dried (not during the wash process). This makes it easier to check your work and make sure that you have thoroughly cleaned the surface. Make sure that you are sufficiently lubricating the surface with either the qd supplied with your claybar or #34. During the process the surface of the clay may start to look dirty, at this point simply kneed the clay again to reveal a clean side and continue your work. Hope this helps.
