  • As a pre-wash, I wiped down my pollen caked car in the rain. Bad?

My car is loaded with pollen. Roof and trunk were caked.
It was raining today, so I went out with my MF towels and wiped the entire car down in like 30 seconds.
Folded a new side for each panel.

Now, I can do a much easier "Wash and Wax" without using 1/2 the bottle.
Anyone else every do this as a quicky pre-wash?

I haven't but it might have helped to lube it a little with the wash and wax.

I have been tempted many times to try a two bucket wash this way. Hmmm

Lube is your friend. Washing in the rain without suds, would be like washing a car with just a bucket of plain water. Might not hurt, but I wouldn't do it.

I would have at least used some UQD to help lube the finish. Have you ever seen a microscopic view of pollen?

Car looks great. Glad I did it. So much dust and pollen GONE.
Next, I will use wash/wax and then wax.

I have done this once, but never again.

For me, it introduced lots of fine scratches and swirls on the vehicle, which I then had to polish out with M205.

I have (and still occasionally do) do a 2BM wash in the rain though. No issues

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Can't say I've ever done it, but I've seen the results of what can happen if you do.

I agree with Davey here, and while you might not initially notice on a lighter coloured car, on a darker colour (or black....) you will almost certainly see some surface marking.

                  I'll take a closer look.
It was a heavy rain and the car was loaded with water
so I felt it was lubed pretty well. Plus, I kept changing the MF towel.

Nope... still wouldn't do it without a rinseless wash or at least a waterless wash as a lubricant. Water doesn't have lubricity like you think.

not a bad idea, but definitely would have used a rinseless wash as more lube.
