  • Bonnet recommendation for UC, UP and UW with orbital polisher

My T-100 has some minimal oxidation so to clean this up, based on input from this forum, I've elected to start with UC followed by UP and finally the Ultimate Wax.

While not ideal, I have a orbital polisher I can use. I am hoping someone can recommend what bonnet I should use for these products and this application.

While I may invest in a real DA, it is not in the current budget.

    Thanks.

Can't help you on the bonnets. But you can actually pick up a Harbor Freight DA for about $50-60. All you would need is a better backing plate and pads.

Stay away from the terry and get foam bonnets. While I don't know a brand but foam is what will give u any kind of correction ability

Ok Guz So what kind of backing plate and pad? And then I'd still wonder about which bonnet would be best for what I want to do.

Re: Bonnet recommendation for UC, UP and UW with orbital polisher

I realized I own a National Detroit Model DAQ pneumatic DA sander. It is old as I picked it up at a pawn shop several years ago.
It has a 5/16" diameter stud so will work with the Meg backing plates. It came standard with a 6" pad but I think I'll use a 5" unless someone thinks this is wrong. Meg has the burgundy, yellow and black pad situation pretty clear at this point so things are much improved over my "WaxMaster 500".

The air consumption is 11-13cfm at 60psi which is within the range of my 60 gallon 220v compressor so air should not be an issue.

The National Detroit manual advises to use only ND backing plates as they are specifically balanced for use with their sanders. Seems like some kind of BS to me in that the backing plate is probably balanced free standing and the sander, any sander or DA polisher expects it to be.

So I'm getting close. I need to order my pads and backing plate and I believe I now have all what I need. UC, UP and U liquid Wax. And some Ultimate Black for the trim.
