  • Backing plate vs pad size?

What size should the backing plate be compared to the pads? Is it okay if they're the same size? These are what I'm looking at: http://www.autodetailingsolutions.ne...h-bundle.html- is it okay to have a 5 inch backing plate with a 5 inch pad? Also, how does the pad connect to the backing plate connect to the DA?

Thank you for all the help.

Re: Backing plate vs pad size?

Using a backing labelled as 5" with a pad labelled as 5" is pretty normal as the actual dimensions tend to be a bit smaller (the backing plate) and larger (the pads). For example, below are images of our new 5" thin foam disc mounted to our new 5" backing plate:

The shape of the pad gives a bit of a bumper so that you aren't banging the backing plate into edges, trim, etc. At the same time, the backing plate is wide enough to provide great support behind almost the entire surface of the pad, which is critical for defect removal and overall performance.

Attachment is via simple hook & loop (aka velcro).
