  • Great results with M80, but swirl marks re-surfaced. What product(s) to try next?

A couple years ago, I purchased a PC 7524XP and polished my '95 3000GT with M80 (I have single stage paint.) I got great results, but the swirl marks have re-surfaced. Looking to do another head-to-toe polish this summer, but I'd like to use a slightly more aggressive product this time around.

Here are the options I'm considering at the moment:

    M83 + M80
    SwirlX or ScratchX + M80
    M105 + M205 (thinking M105 may be overkill...)

    Any recommendations?

Probably UC and 205, or UC and #80 would be nice combos, if you need the extra strength.

I would also try one of these.

What they said, plus how is your washing technique? Sounds like you are putting the swirls back in as you wash.

How are you applying these products?

          Rotary hand, or DA?

          What type of pads?

          Can you describe your technique?

M205 may be all you really need for this car. Try a test spot with M205 on our new DFC5 burgundy foam cutting disc and another right next to it with M205 on a DFP5 yellow foam polishing pad and see which one gives the best result. You may be very pleasantly surprised at the results.

Ok. I'll give M205 a try first, and if I need a little something more, I'll try the UC/M205 combo.

Not sure how or why the swirl marks re-appeared. I probably spent 10 hours on the car... 5-6 passes on each section with the PC 7424XP (W-8006 polishing pad, 5.0 setting), followed by a coat of NXT Tech Wax (applied with a W9006 Finishing Pad, and removed with a microfiber bonnet/W-7006 Cutting Pad.)

              I took my cues from Mike's "
1960 Corvette" post, as well as his YouTube video series ("How to remove swirls, scratches and water spots using a Porter Cable 7424XP Polisher".) Like I said, the results were amazing- and the swirl marks that I see now are much finer- but I feel like there's still room for improvement.

Anyway, thanks for the replies! I'll share my results when I'm finished, in case anyone is interested.
