  • Air Compressor for Tornador Black

Hello Detailers. I am looking at getting a Tornador Black to make interior cleaning a bit quicker but I still have questions. I've looked around and found that the tornador black uses less air so it is mobile friendly. Does anyone have experience with this tool and if so, what air compressor do you use? Thanks

Re: Air Compressor for Tornador Black

I have a few of the Tornador air tools and two different air compressors; a 20 gallon vertical tank Snap-On that provides great air flow for the Tornador, and a smaller 3 gallon "hot dog" Snap-on portable compressor that...... isn't. Even the T. Black series use quite a bit of air, just less than the original versions did. My portable compressor is perfect for remote jobs where all I need is the ability to blow out microfiber pads to keep them clean, and even with that short blast of air the compressor motor will kick in. Running a Tornador on that little compressor would likely kill it - compressors are just not made to have the motor running all the time, and a small compressor would be doing just that trying to keep up with the demands of the Tornador. They are fantastic tools (my personal opinion, of course) but they do require some pretty decent air flow.

Thanks for your response Mike. That's what I've been reading. It's also a good idea to get an oil based air compressor vs the oil-less. Some people say they've had success with having a smaller tank but then some say a 30+ is needed. I'm getting mixed answers so maybe there was more insight here.

I'm looking at the Ingersoll Rand Garage Mate series. One is a 20 gallon tank the other is a 30 gallon tank. I want to run the Tornador Black. Is there going to be a huge difference in the performance I get from the Tornador from either of these units? Will the 30 gallon be worth the cost and size difference?

If you plan on running something like an impact wrench or air ratchet, the bigger the tank the better. I wouldn't leave the consideration down to only one tool you would use as having a compressor really opens up your options for some nice useful tools

I have a 30 gallon single stage and wish I had a large 50-100 gallon 2 stage setup.
