  • Wax for brandnew honda

Hi, I would like to introduce myself. My name is Slava.
The question I have is: I have a brand new Honda civic- 4 months old.
When I bought cleaner wax paste and did waxing. Then read it contained abrasives that can harm clear coat. Bought gold class carnauba plus paste wax now. As I see from these forums it contains cleaners as well.
So can these waxes harm or damage any clear coat/paint on my Honda?
what wax then can I use?

You will be fine to use a cleaner wax it won't harm you clear coat. I use a cleaner wax all the time on my daily driven vehicles. GC is a good wax and you will have no problems with it. If you are looking for a long lasting wax then Ultimate paste or the liquid wax will be the one for you.

Hi, I bought GC because it contains carnauba. Ultimate wax the same?
        Does GC contain any cleaners/abrasives?

Ultimate is a pure synthetic wax with no cleaners or all man made materials no carnauba. GC I think it is a pure wax but I'm not sure for certain. I have only used it a couple of times because my buddy had a bottle of it.

Re: Wax for brand new car

As Scott pointed out, a cleaner wax is safe on clear coats. Don't let the fact that the product contains abrasives scare you. The cleaner waxes are carnauba based. I believe Gold Class carnauba is a polish/wax meaning it has light cleaners. I don't use it so you may have to search on here or someone else who uses it more often can chime it. Ultimate wax, M21 and NXT 2.0 are synthetic. Synthetics last longer than a carnauba. It just depends if you are looking for long term protection.

Don't forget to clay prior to applying a wax. Google the baggie test. That will tell you if you need to clay or not. It will allow the wax to have bond better to the paint.

Are you doing this by hand or machine?

I am not an expert but I have use both waxes you mentioned and they do not seem to damage my clear coat in any way. Also I think they are supposed to protect your paint and not do any harm. However, I stop using the traditional carnauba wax because I wash my car every two weeks and then I apply a sealant spray wax. However, it doesnot last as long as you're traditional waxes buy if you apply it every week or two and kept it maintained it can replace traditional waxing.

I've went totally away from the natural wax such as Gold Class because of the white staining of black trim and rubber. For a daily driver that isn't getting polished, I don't see any advantages off a natural wax. Short service life, white stains and more labor intensive application and removal when compared to a synthetic like the Ultimate paste or liquid. I typically don't use wax as a cleaner/polish, if a car needs correction, out come the 105/205 and the Flex, and I finish with a synthetic for long lasting protective layer over my work.
Doing the best I can with what I've got.

Re: Wax for brand new car

Cleaner Wax is fine for clear coats. It's abrasiveness is very minimal compared to other products. The amount of clear coat you'd be removing is negligable.

                    GCCP wax has no abrasives...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

                      Your paint is fine.

We are talking very mild cleaning ability, to help what the washing leaves behind.

The best thing would be two coats of wax... first the cleaner/wax, then the gold class.

Slavon, we took the liberty of combining your two threads into one since they both asked the same questions. It just keeps things cleaner on the forum when the answers to the same question are kept in the same thread.

We don't mean to nitpick, but being a polish/wax means that GC contains polishing oils that help do darken the paint and add gloss. GC is not a cleaner wax.

I would wash, clay, if the paint isn't in that bad a shape, I would just use Ultimate Wax for maximum protection, however, Gold Class Carnauba Plus itself is a good option too.
