No, that was two different posters. The second was telling the first what he has done.

As for the question it almost looks like oxidation. Does carbon fiber get oxidation? I would try the wash and clay bar method suggested above.

Eh, all is well. It is kind of confusing when two people without an avatar post right around the same time.

Re: White haze on my Carbon Fiber hood

Carbon Fiber components do oxidize if they don't have an automotive clear coat sprayed n them after they are made, this usually makes the part more expensive.

If you're seeing oxidation then that's a very good sign that it does NOT have a clear coat on it. The good news is oxidation is pretty easy to fix with the right products.

ScratchX will work but it's not the only thing you need, after using ScratchX you need to apply a pure polish like Deep Crystal Polish and then a wax to protect your hard work. ScratchX is only for removing defects.

Another option that works really well by machine is to use M80 Speed Glaze, you could also use tis by hand. If you do your work by hand then whether you use ScratchX as your cleaner or M80 Speed Glaze as your cleaner then you really need to do a GREAT job of working the product over and into the surface and only work a small section at a time.

The best way to restore oxidized carbon fiber components is to buff them out using a machine like our G110 DA Polisher and if they're really bad they'll need to be buffed with a rotary buffer.

Re: White haze on my Carbon Fiber hood

I typed all that up and then clicked on your picture...

It looks like there are two spots or areas where perhaps clear coat has worn off? If that's the case then no polish is going to fix this, only having it re-cleared will fix the problem and you might have a hard time finding a painter that will want to accept the challenge. It might be less costly to just buy a new hood.

Remember this though... Carbon Fiber components need to be maintained just like car paint no matter what someone else might tell you. Can't count how many people have brought carbon fiber hoods on their cars to Meguiar's Garage because they're absolutely wasted away and the owners all did the same thing... that is they did nothing...

                Just a note...

I merged your two threads together as one was basically a duplicate of the other. Please don't double post, one thread on a topic is proper Netiquette.

                Thank you!

Just the normal things you would use and do to your car to keep it nice,

                    Wash
                    Clay when needed
Clean when needed - This means remove paint defects, not wash the car.
Polish - This is an optional step but a good idea if your a fanatic about keeping your paint/carbon fiber looking it's best
Protect - Apply your favorite wax on a regular schedule to keep it show room new.

Basically, you follow the 5-Step Paint Care Cycle

Did you ever get your hood re-sprayed with a new clear coat finish?

Re: White haze on my Carbon Fiber hood

I noticed this thread is a couple of years old, but since it closely relates to the problem I'm having with my all CF motorcycle fairings has the recommendation changed at all?

I've got quite a bit of hazing (some of it growing milky) that I'd like to try to do away with.

As long as the finish on you CF parts are the same as described in this post, the methods described here should work for you too.

Re: White haze on my Carbon Fiber hood

I believe so. The fairings are finished with a clear ester resin, not a clear coat, so I'm assuming what I'm seeing is a film of oxidization.

So what exactly am I to look for then? Do I need ScratchX 2.0 and ColorX? What wax would be best considering there is no clear coat?
