  • P21s Paintwork Cleanser and Meguiar's Synthetic Sealant - Adhesion Issues?

I've been using only P21s products for the past few years (shampoo > paintwork cleanser > carnuba wax) with fantastic results. My only complaint is the P21s wax doesn't last as long as I'd like and I often don't have time to apply new wax before the previous coat has been stripped. To help protect the paint when I don't have time to reapply the P21s, I am planning to apply Meguiar's Synthetic Sealant and top it with the P21s wax, so the steps would be: shampoo > paintwork cleanser > synthetic sealant > carnuba wax. My question is: will the P21s paintwork cleanser interfere with the adhesion of the Synthetic Sealant? From what I've read, the P21s paintwork cleanser is intended to strip the finish of old wax and contaminants; However, the bottle also claims it will remove slight swirl marks, which makes me suspect it also contains fillers. Will the fillers interfere with the synthetic sealant's ability to adhere to the finish? If so, will washing between the paintwork cleanser and the synthetic sealant remove any remaining filler? I know the P21s carnuba wax can be applied straight after the cleanser, but I can't find a definitive answer for Meguiar's synthetic sealant.

Note: I polished the car recently and the clear coat is still in fairly good condition, so any fillers will not be missed if washed away; the main reason I am using the cleanser is to prep the surface and remove contaminants.

I'm not familiar with P21 paint cleanser. Just taking a quick look at the description on autogeek it looks like it's a polish that offers very little correction. I can't comment on if there are fillers in it. You could either try washing the car or use a little diluted IPA on one panel and inspect. Then follow up with M21.

I don' think you would have issues with M21 bonding to the paint right on top of P21S.

You won't have any compatibility issues whatsoever. In fact, using a mild paint cleaner like this is actually a good idea before applying wax as it does just what you describe. If there are any fillers at all, even they won't compromise your application of M21 Synthetic Sealant or any other such product. If you are super concerned about this (and really, there is no reason to be, at all) then after using the cleaner just give the car a light wipe down with a 15-20% IPA solution before applying M21. But in all honesty, that's overkill - you could apply M07 Show Car Glaze before applying M21 and not have any issues, and M07 will leave plenty of material behind on the paint. P21S won't pose any problems at all - go for it!

Thanks, Michael! A straight forward answer like that is exactly what I was looking for. Now I just need to wait for the rains to stop.

I have never been a fan of P21 waxes. I have tried them but always came back to Meg's products. I do like the P21s wheel cleaner. I do use the P21s total cycle cleaner on my motorcycles and then was with Megs UP and UW after the bikes are clean and dry. Megs UW is the longest lasting sealant that I have found.
