Hey all,
I detailed my new Honda Accord Sport the other day, and decided to apply some protectant to the plastics (hard plastic, probably PP or ABS) on the pillar between the doors, which were looking a little faded already. I used Meguiar's ultimate protectant (not sure if it's still in production... I believe it was rebranded it as ultimate black). It looks like the dealership may have applied something before I took delivery, which wore off over the 2 months before it was sold.
Anyways, The protectant didn't absorb well, and took a decent two coats to get anything even in appearance.
Then, after just 5 to 7 days later, the ultimate protectant had disappeared, and all that was left was this nasty pattern, with some yellowish/brownish coloration in spots:

I had taken it by a body shop to have rail dust contamination diagnosed, and the pro there said that the pillars were probably contaminated with a silicone-based protectant compound.
Seems to make sense... From a bit of research, it seems as though the Meguiar's protectant was water based instead... and the hydrophobic coating of silicone clashed with the protectant.
Do you guys agree with the diagnosis? If so, is there any way to safely and completely remove the remaining silicone?
Also, Here are 2 more shots, each with a bit of a different perspective, highlighting different areas. Other side looks basically the same.

Thanks!
Mike
