  • Detailing Headlights

I have been using Meguiars Heavy Duty Headlight Restoration Kit with great results. However, the headlights would turn dull in a few months.

Are there other more durable solutions? How about Opti-Coat?

Sounds like the factory UV protection on the headlights has gone.

Yes, something like OC would be a more durable solution...

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

Definitely. My car is 10 years old and it has been well maintained by Meguiar's products since the car was new.

I read about Opti Lens as well not sure if they are similar products.

Just curious if you were you using the headlight protectant that came with the kit? They turn yellow since there is no more UV coating on them since you sanded it away. Opti-lens would be the way to go if you want something permanent. Another alternative is to put some x-pel once you correct the lenses with the heavy duty kit.

Yes, I used the headlight protectant after PlastX.

I do have clear bra on my car, probably 3M. I will call the installer if they have something for headlights. Also, I will check also if any local detailer shop offers Opti Coat or Opti Lens.

The kit came with a small bottle of Headlight protectant. Maybe I can apply it to the headlights more often. Hope this will help.

It's recommend to apply the protectant every 6-8 weeks. If you do that it should help them stay clear. I have x-pel on my headlights and I do recommend it. I installed it myself and it's been about 3 years and the lights are still clear as is the film. Maybe they have a kit for your car.

Great. I will apply the protectant more often to see if the headlights stay clear longer.

I will also call the clear bra guy if he has anything for headlights.

                  Re: Detailing Headlights

Dupli-Color has a UV resistant clear coat for headlights. It is sold as part of a kit. This past spring I wet sanded and buffed my headlights with M105 then coated them with the clear coat and they are holding up very well.

                    Re: Detailing Headlights

I called the guy who did my 3M clear bra. He told me 3M made film for headlight called Opti-Gurad.

I googled and Opti-Guad is just the clear bra. 3M called their headlight protection film X-pel.

I will have to pay them a visit. I will not do it if there is no x-pel in his product.
I am concerned that he will apply the clear-bra material (opti-guard) to my headlights.
